I am a decendent of Francis (born 1854) and Crawford (1852) Wimberly of Camilla, GA (Mitchell Co). I have noticed that several people have put that they have Wimberly ties to the area. We are in the process of the final arrangements for a family reunion for the descendants of this couple. There are several grandchildren that are still alive (my grandmother at 90 is one of the youngest living grandchildren!!!) that have direct memories of this couple as well of their aunts, uncles, and other relatives. Every year we try to make a video tape interview with all of the remaining grandchildren to confirm/correct any information that we have researched over the past year. I'm sure that this could help a LOT of you who are looking for information. My mother and her cousins have managed to get a pretty complete history of the family using Francis and Crawford as a starting point. The family reunion is scheduled this year (2005) for the July 4th week-end in Camilla, GA. We are descendents of William Pleasant Wimberly (Born Abt 1825; Died June 5, 1906 Harrison Co, TX).  He was married to Sarah T. Huff (Born abt. 1825; Died September 23, 1905 Harrison Co, TX). He was from Alabama and Sarah was born in Georgia.  They had 9 children:  Martha E, Wimberly, John Henry Wimberly, Anna Eliza Wimberly (she married James Houston Sirmans who was my great great grandfather), James R. Wimberly, Mack W. Wimberly,  William Wimberly, Joseph A,  Wimberly, A. E Wimberly and S.V. Wimberly.  First three were born in Marion Co, GA and the others were born in Harrison Co, TX.  We would love to get in touch with anyone who might have information on William Pleasant Wimberly or Sarah T. Rob Wimberly is believed to have been born in Hamburg, Arkansas in the late 1800's. His son, Rev. Nathan Wimberly, died on May 6, 1997 at the age of 91. He was a member and Assistant Pastor of the Bright Oak Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe, LA. His survivors included his wife, Alberta (Simpson) Wimberly of Monroe and their children, including my grandmother, Versie Mae (Gibson) Wimberly. I am an African-American and our family has a surname of Blackshear. I am trying to find out about the Wimberly family from Mitchell Co, GA area (Camilla, GA). I know that the Blackshear's were very fair (light-skinned) African Americans, possibly some Indian/European background.  I believe my grandfather, John Wimberly, was not born in Mitchell County but I am not sure.  I will be greatful for any information in my search. I am looking for any information on William Cain Wimberly (1869-1923) from the Dunlap/McMinnville, TN area. Specifically, I am searching for information on his 2nd wife, Clarria (Scott) Wimberly (1882-1908). She had two half-brothers, Jody and Willie Patrick. I am African-American. My father's name is Charles B. Wimberly, Sr.  I believe he was born in Macon County, GA. (b. 1926 - d. 1965). He married Oper S. Witherspoon from Sumter, SC
They had four children, Charles B., Keith, Joyce L., and Lakitus Wimberly. I think I can recall my dad's sister name as being Bertha.  My brother mentioned a cousin's name as being Bennett.  My grandfather's name was Charles Wimberly. I am looking for information on any Wimberlys from Dunlap/Jasper, TN and McMinnville/Altamont, TN. My grandfather was Levy Clayborne Wimberly and I believe he died around 1949. My grandmother was Stella Lucinda Hobbs. I also had a great uncle, Frank Wimberly, who married a Dorothy, and an Irene Wimberly. Levy and Stella had 3 boys and five girls. His son Ira Andrew Wimberly was born on January 1, 1891 and married to Julia Inez Turner on October 4, 1912 in Georgetown, TX. Andrew Perry Wimberly is my great-grandfather. I am a descendant of William Wimberly and Elizabeth Harrell on my father's side. Their daughter, Elizabeth Wimberly (b. 1789) in Bertie Co, NC married John P. Bush in 1805 in Washington County, Alabama. Their children: Hardy Bush, Abner Bush, Sarah Bush, Amanda Bush, and Lee Bush. Sarah Bush married Alford McLean of South Caolina. They had a daughter, Elizabeth McLean, who married Samuel Richard Kennedy and lived in Ararat, AL and Texas. They had a son, James Thomas Kennedy who married Mary Amanda Dean from Texas. I am searching for anything connected to Abraham Wimberly and Barbara Lebender who were married in August, 1786. I am seeking information on my great-grandmother, Susannah Elizabeth Wimberly, who was born on November 29, 1825 possibly in Dorchester or Orangeburg County, South Carolina. I am looking for information about the family of my father, Walter Wilbur Wimberly, who was born August 25, 1917 in Marble Falls, TX. My grandfather was Ira Wimberly who married Julia Turner. Looking for information concerning Fred B. Wimberly. Moved down from Oklahoma in the 1920's, started a Oil Field in East Texas in the 50s. This was my grandfather and he died when I was very young. Searching for the Wimberly's of West Texas Surry County in the early 1900's. My grandfather was Titus Wimberly. His father was believed to be Henry Taylor Wimberly who was married to Kathern Mallard, but I am uncertain. Titus is believed to be born near Monroe, Lousiana around 1890. William Baker II, born about 1759, married Sarah Arnett, born about 1776, in Charleston, SC and settled in Anson Co, NC on Brown Creek. They (William and Sarah) had 9 children including James Baker, born about 1790 in NC, probably Anson Co. I now believe James Baker married Nancy Wimberly, born about 1794 in about 1812. Nancy Wimberly is the daughter of James Wimberly and Judy Unknown. In the will of James Wimberly, born about 1758, of Brown Creek, Anson Co, NC which was dated January 27, 1815, their children are shown as: 1) Abraham Wimberly; 2) Joel Wimberly; 3) Isaac Wimberly; 4) Thomas Wimberly; 5) Polly Wimberly; 6) Stacy Wimberly; 7) Elvey Wimberly; 8) Nancy (Wimberly) Baker. My ancestor is Benjamin Wimberly (b. May 1864) in Montgomery Co, TN. He was married to Ella Tyler around 1869. The 1900 Census shows they had 4 children (James, Rouel, George, and Jessie), but afterwards came Frank, Tyler, Zelman, Dorothy and Margaret). The family eventually migrated to Kentucky and Indiana. My family is African-American and I don't know if there is a blood relation with the branch of the Wimberlys on this website, but I would be interested in info on Wimberlys living in Clarksville, Montgomery Co, TN during that time period to see if there are records pertaining to my ancestors. I Am researching Joel Wimberly from Anson Co, NC. He was in the War of 1812 and married Jane Harrell. They moved to Jackson Co, AL before it became a county and state in 1819. He and many of his descendants are buried in the Wimberly Cemetery, Stevenson, Jackson Co, AL. Any help is appreciated and I believe in sharing. Looking for parents and siblings of my great grandfather, Enoch Wimberly, who was born April 15, 1830, in either Warren or Lincoln Co., MO. Enoch was raised by foster parents, Nicholas and Delilah (Fine) Shrum, who were from Smith Co., TN. In 1846, Enoch left Missouri with the Shrum family and traveled west to Oregon. Interested in information on ancestors and descendants of Linchfield/Lynchfield Wimberly of NC (probably Chatham County), Blount Co, TN, and Sequatchie Valley (Marion/Sequatchie/Bledsoe). Linchfield was born in Blount Co, TN (NC) in 1796 and died on December 15, 1878. Linchfield married Diadama Lasater, probable daughter of Burrell Lasater and Milly Beasley. Milly was the daughter of William Beasley and Granddaughter of Henry Beasley of Chatham County, NC. The Beasleys moved from Chatham Co, NC to Blount Co, then to Sequatchie Co. I am researching the name Wimberly in TN and AR. I am looking for information on Major Wimberly born abt 1808 in Blount Co, TN. He had a son Harris born 1837 in TN who died in the Civil War December 22, 1965 (He was hung as a deserter, family legend says he was only late getting back). He was the father of two sons, George Grundy Wimberly and Willis M. Wimberly. George and Willis married sisters, Emma P. and Sarah F. Hill.
